The League of Women Voters of the Pikes Peak Region
was pleased to award Rosemary Bakes-Martin with the first annual
"Making Democracy Work" Award.

Rosemary Bakes-Martin received the "Making Democracy Work" Award for her lifelong commitment to social justice and civic improvement. Bakes-Martin moved the Health Department from a closed organization to a community-based organization welcoming public dialog and interaction. She received the Award on February 15, 2007. League members were saddened by news of her death in July, 2008.

2007 "Making Democracy Work" Award Finalists included Pamela Bruni, Marvie Randall, Janet Suthers and Sandy Taylor. The League honored all of these women at the Award reception for their contributions to a safe, vibrant and strong community.
