For no money, little time, and without running for office, each of us can participate in one board or commission, thereby changing our government, beginning with our local government, by citizen participation on government boards and commissions.
Boards and Commissions are the bridge between the City Council or Board of County Commissioners and the city or county departments, like the water department or the highway department. They are the “watchdogs,” if you will, to make sure our tax monies are spent wisely and needed programs and repairs are being made that benefit city and county citizens.
To get started, here are some suggestions:
For the City Boards and Commissions, visit City Boards and Commissions. Click on any Commission, Board or Committee in the list down the left side of the page for complete information.
For County Boards and Commissions, please go the Volunteer Boards page of the El Paso County website. All Commissions, Boards and Committees will be listed at the top of that page... just click on one for complete information.
For information about serving on a Judiciary Commission, please go the Colorado Supreme Court's website. There is information about Judicial Nominating Commissions and an application at this site.
If you have any questions or need any help, please contact Dr. Pat Boone at (719) 884-0084 or by email at drpatboone@yahoo.com.
Encouraging participation in government is part of the League's goals. One Citizen, One Commission is part of LWVPPR's 2008-2009 program.
Consider being on one Board or Commission, City or County. We're hoping that this grass-roots program will sweep our country. We can change our local government, one citizen at a time. We need your vote, your voice, your commitment! Please consider applying today!
